SANDY SPRINGS YOUTH SPORTS CODE OF CONDUCT

We ask for all parents & coaches to pledge to provide positive support, care and
encouragement for players participating in youth sports. In agreeing to this pledge we ask all
parents & coaches to conduct themselves in accordance with the following guidelines:

● Treat each athlete, opposing coach, official, parent and administrator with respect and
dignity
● Do your best to learn the fundamental skills, teaching and evaluation techniques and
strategies of your sport
● Become familiar with the rules of your sport
● Become familiar with the objectives of the youth sport program with which I am affiliated
● Uphold the authority of officials who are assigned to the contests in which you coach,
and assist them in every way to conduct fair and impartial competitive contests
● Learn the strengths and weaknesses of my athletes so that I might place them in
situations where they have a maximum opportunity to achieve success
● Conduct practices and games so that all athletes have an opportunity to improve their
skill level through active participation
● Communicate to my athletes and their parents the rights and responsibilities of
individuals on our team
● Cooperate with the administration of our organization in the enforcement of rules and
regulations and I will report any irregularities that violate sound competitive practices
● Protect the health and safety of my athletes by insisting that all of the activities under my
control are conducted for their psychological welfare rather than for the various interests
of adults
● Encourage membership and active participation at the park and support the decisions of
the Board
● Not tolerate any form of abuse of children, be it physical, verbal, emotional, ethical or
sexual and will immediately report and such abuse to the proper authorities.
● Not disparage or retaliate against athletes, opposing coaches, officials, parents, or
administrators for actions taken on or off the field.
● Harassment includes repeated actions or behaviors, either physical or non-physical, that
make someone feel uncomfortable, scared, or humiliated. It can be actions that insult or
belittle someone, show unfair bias, or create an unwelcoming environment. Harassment
aims to make one person or group feel less important or in control, and it can be based
on things like gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, ethnicity, race, culture, national
origin, or disabilities. It also covers any behavior that is considered harassment by state
or federal laws.
● Refrain from alcohol, tobacco, and drug use during practices and games.

SSYS governing committees reserve the right to impose penalties, including, without limitation,
game suspensions, dismissal from the team, probation, suspension or revocation of SSYS
membership for serious or repeated violation of this Code of Conduct or other conduct deemed
to be harmful to the SSYS community.
